Bologna 0 – 1 Chievo

Bologna had a penalty saved and were beaten at home by Simone Pepe’s Chievo.

Roberto Donadoni’s men were seemingly unstoppable and fresh from a shock 1-0 victory away to Milan midweek, but Anthony Mounier and Assane Diawara sat out bans with Franco Brienza, Domenico Maietta and Luca Rizzo injured. Chievo fought back to hold Roma 3-3 on Wednesday and had to readjust with Lucas Castro suspended, Riccardo Meggiorini and Alessandro Gamberini sidelined.

Bologna were forced into an early substitution when Perparim Hetemaj got a knock to the knee.

Valter Birsa and Luca Rossettini attempted long-range efforts, then Bologna received a penalty for Nicolas Frey’s trip on Emanuele Giaccherini. However, Mattia Destro stepped up and his spot-kick was beaten off the line by Albano Bizzarri’s trailing leg.

Giaccherini saw an effort deflected off target and Matteo Brighi blasted just over the bar, but it was Chievo who broke through.

Fabrizio Cacciatore crossed from the by-line for Simone Pepe, who chested down and controlled to place a daisy-cutter into the far bottom corner.
