Welcome to our preview of the Chelsea v Liverpool Premier League clash. Liverpool’s extremely difficult Christmas period continues with a trip to one of the most fancied clubs in the Premier League for this year’s title. Chelsea leapfrogged Liverpool on Boxing Day, after the Reds lost to title chasing Manchester City, while the Blues managed to see off Swansea with a single Eden Hazard goal. Liverpool will certainly hope to avoid defeat here as they attempt to keep up their title challenge, and maintain a top four slot in this incredibly tight Premier League season.

Team and Selection News

Both teams had close games just a couple of days before this match, and so are likely to make at least a couple of changes. Samuel Eto’o started up front for Chelsea against Swansea, so Fernando Torres is likely to play here, while Andre Schürrle, Frank Lampard, Willian, Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill may also start after being benched against the Welsh side. Liverpool performed very creditably in being defeated 2-1 by Manchester City, and would like to keep most of the same eleven on the park, but Brendan Rodgers may feel the need to freshen his starting eleven up. Steven Gerrard is pushing to be fit, while Kolo Toure and Viktor Moses may come in contention as well.
