David De gea has described the feeling of returning to Manchester United’s team following his collapsed move to Real Madrid as “amazing”.

A summer of speculation linking him to the Bernabeu almost ended in him agreeing to join the La Liga giants on transfer deadline day.

However, the move broke down due to a paperwork error and De Gea subsequently signed a new contract at Old Trafford.

After sitting out the first six matches of the season, the Spaniard was returned to United’s team for the clash with Liverpool in September.

“It was just incredible, the welcome that I received from all the Manchester United fans,” De Gea told Inside United .

“It was a special game, a derby against Liverpool, so to have won at home, in that fantastic atmosphere, it was unforgettable! It was amazing.

“It’s difficult to be able to describe how I felt at that moment, even if I try to. I just want to thank all the fans for the support they’ve always given me since the first day I arrived here. It was just incredible.”

The match against Liverpool ended in a dramatic 3-1 win, with Anthony Martial announcing himself to the Premier League with a stunning goal to seal United’s win

And De Gea has been impressed by the 20-year-old in his debut season at Old Trafford.

“I think he [Martial] really surprised everyone,” De Gea added. “He’s a great player, still very young and with a lot of time to learn and improve, but he’s settled into the team and to Premier League football quickly.

“He’s a top player. He’s a laid-back lad, very quiet, just a really good kid. We’re all made up with him and he brings a lot to the team. As I say, I rate him highly.”
