Here is our Hamburger vs Dusseldorf Match Preview.

This is the 45th time Hamburger and Dusseldorf have faced each other. There have been 20 Hamburger victories, 12 draws and 12 Dusseldorf victories. Looking just at matches played at Hamburg between these two, we see there have been 15 Hamburger victories, three draws and 3 Dusseldorf wins.  In fact the last time Dusseldorf won at Hamburger was way back in 1985.

Recent Form

Hamburger came out of run of three consecutive defeats by beating Mainz last week 2-1. They have now won 2 of their last 5 matches, and perhaps the effects of the 9-2 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich are starting to wear off. Looking at their home form, they have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 5 home matches.

Dusseldorf are in bad shape, they have lost 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 matches. If we look at the away matches, the picture is worse. They have drawn 1 and lost 4 of their last 5 away matches.

Team News

Hamburger’s manager handed the captains armband to Rafael van der Vaart last week. He believes that the added responsibility was weighing heavy on Heiko Westermann and affecting his performances. They did win at Mainz, so perhaps this was a shrewd strategy on his part. Heung-Min Son, who scored 2 goals at Mainz looks sure to start.

Dusseldorf’s coach believes that with a little bit of luck, his team could have done much better this season. To losses in the last minutes of matches may lend some weight to his claims, but at the end of the day soccer is a match played over 90 minutes – not 89. They have no known team issues and having used up all that bad luck, they hope to get the rub of the green on Saturday.

Analysis Output

Bad luck or not, there is no way that we can justify supporting Dusseldorf, and we think that this will be a good win by Hamburger. We are looking at a score line of 1-0 or 2-0. But essentially we are confident of a Hamburger win.
