Welcome to our preview of Lille’s home game against Monaco in the French Ligue 1. Monaco are hoping to qualify for the Champions League at the very least this season, having splashed out untold millions on the likes of Radamel Falcao, while Lille are notable in England at least for having taken former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole on a season long loan a couple of years back. Nonetheless, both have made a good start to the season, with this being a match-up between the second and third placed teams in the Ligue 1 standings.

Team and Selection News

Both of these teams have few selection worries ahead of this fixture, and with both teams having been in excellent form, it seems unlikely that too many changes will be made.

Either one of these teams could end up in second in the table after this match has been completed, so there is a lot at stake at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Monaco have a very expensively assembled squad, and the obvious class player on display in Radamel Falcao. Lille have shown themselves to be a good outfit so far this term, though, and their recent results have been excellent.

Thus, the home side will be no pushover here,  with leaders PSG having only picked up a point in their last fixture both teams will be thinking of gaining ground on the leaders in this game. Lille have proved the surprise package of this season and I have my doubts about Monaco’s Falcao being able to breach their defenses. For me the best prediction for this football match is a Lille win, with a draw also a strong  possibility.
