Montpellier Hérault SC 3 – 1 Stade de Reims

Anthony Weber had put Reims ahead in the 12th minute but Mustapha Yatabaré quickly equalised for the hosts and second-half goals by Souleymane Camara and Bryan Dabo secured a precious win for the 2012 champions.

Rolland Courbis has seen his Montpellier side win three and draw one of their last four games and they move up to the giddy heights of 14th place, their dreadful start to the campaign becoming but a distant memory. In contrast, Reims started the season well but have now lost six successive Ligue 1 games and seven on the bounce in all competitions and they find themselves behind Montpellier on goal difference.

The evening had started well for Olivier Guégan and his team as they opened the scoring, Diego Rigonato’s free-kick delivery being met by Weber, who beat Laurent Pionnier in the home goal with a looping header from the edge of the area.

50 up for Camara

However, Montpellier were back on level terms on 21 minutes when Dabo helped on a corner from the right and Yatabaré was on hand to score his first goal since signing in the summer on loan from Trabzonspor of Turkey.

Camara came off the bench to replace Yatabaré and put the home side ahead just past the midway point in the second half, rounding Kossi Agassa to slot in his 50th Ligue 1 goal after a Pionnier clearance had somehow come all the way to him.

Morgan Sanson then came on to make his first appearance since rupturing the cruciate ligaments in his right knee in April but – after Rigonato hit the bar from a free-kick for the visitors – it was Dabo who wrapped up the win for Montpellier six minutes from time on a cold and windy evening as he headed home another Ryad Boudebouz corner.
