This is our preview of the key Serie A fixture between Napoli and Roma, probably the highlight of the Serie A season so far. While Napoli went into this season clearly hoping to match a title challenge, having been Juventus’ closest challenger in recent season, it was not widely expected that Roma would be up there. However, the Roman side have been in phenomenal form, winning seven out of seven, and humbling Inter Milan by three goals to nil in the San Siro in their previous fixture. This is an early six pointer that could have significant bearing on where the title ends up come the end of the season.

Team and Selection News

Both teams have a few minor injury niggles going into this fixture, with Ljajic nursing a knock for Roma and Higuain and Albiol both with minor injuries for Napoli. Give the importance of the fixture, one would expect to see both teams field their strongest elevens come what may, unless there are any serious injuries picked up before kick-off.

This will be one of the highlights of European football so far this season. Roma have played as well as any team in Europe so far this season, and their overall record is pretty staggering given that they were given little chance of achieving much this season. Rafa Benitez’s Napoli will be their toughest test so far, though, and Benitez’s teams are notoriously difficult to beat. I’m sure that Roma would settle for a point from this fixture, despite their 100% start to the season, however they have been in such good form that I feel they can win this. So for me it has to be a Roma victory.
