Welcome to our preview of Saint Etienne’s home game against Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1. PSG come into this game top of the French league, and on the back of an emphatic win in the Champions League at Anderlecht, so one would expect Ibrahimovic and co to be full of confidence against this seemingly winnable fixture against the mid-table Saint Etienne.

Team and Selection News

Paris Saint-Germain boast what is probably the strongest squad in Ligue 1, but they are likely to be without a few of their top players for this fixture. Thiago Motta, Javier Pastore and Marco Verratti could all be absent, seriously denting the reigning Ligue 1 champion’s midfield, while Thiago Silva is definitely out at the back. Nonetheless, there is no doubt that PSG have the squad depth at their disposal to put a strong side on the field no matter what, and Matuidi has proved a more than able deputy for some of their better known midfield talent in recent weeks. Saint Etienne are shorn of a few first-teamers at present, most notably the former PSG striker, and new signing for the club, Mevlut Erding.

Conclusion

It seems at present that Paris Saint-Germain are certainly the strongest team in this division, though they have yet to meet the AS Monaco team who are likely to be their strongest challengers. In addition, their talismanic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been in exceptional form of late, rattling in four goals against Anderlecht in mid-week. I  give Saint Etienne a chance of picking up at least a point here, even though most think this is a certain PSG win.
